About Me
BIOGRAPHY

I was born in Medellín, Colombia, and came to the United States as a six-month-old infant, carried here by parents who sacrificed everything so I could have a better life. I grew up first in Queens, New York, and then in Dallas, Texas, before heading to Washington, DC, for college at Georgetown University. I then earned my law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law in Chapel Hill. I have called Charlotte, North Carolina home ever since.
I am happily married to my deeply wise and spirited wife, Kristin. Together, we are raising a beautiful blended family between three teenage kids and our toddler. My family keeps me grounded and grateful for every moment we share together.
I am the Managing Attorney and owner of The Lopez Law Firm, PLLC, where my practice represents the most vulnerable and marginalized immigrants, seeking removal defense, humanitarian benefits, and/or family-based immigration. I am a North Carolina Board Certified Specialist in Immigration Law. As a former Carolinas Chapter Chair and now Elected Director and Chair of the Governance Committee (and member of many others), I have worked steadily to modernize how AILA serves its members. I also served on the 2023 Political Engagement Task Force and was appointed to the inaugural Standing Committee on Political Engagement (SCOPE), helping build AILA’s political engagement infrastructure.
As an immigrant, the son of immigrants, and an immigration lawyer, I know what is at stake — and I am committed to fighting for it every day.
